NASH
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common disorder characterized by an accumulation of excess fat inthe liver (hepatic steatosis).
NASH case study
NASH occurs when excessive fat build-up around the liver causes inflammation. Unchecked, this can progress to tissue scarring (fibrosis), liver cancer and organ failure. NASH is a growing health emergency, tightly linked to obesity and diabetes. A milder form of the disease – fatty liver without inflammation – already affects about aquarter of the US population. NASH is often described as a « silent killer » as there may be few or no symptoms until significant liver tissue damage has occurred.
Nova’s in silico NASH disease model and trial simulation platform helped to answer scientific questions for the proposed NASH clinical program Theratechnologies desires to conduct.
